Katarzyna Starowicz-Bubak, dr hab., prof. nadz., (PhD, Hab. Associate Professor) neuropharmacologist, received the title of doctor of medical sciences at the University of Utrecht, and habilitated doctor of medical sciences in the discipline of medical biology at the Faculty of Medicine of the Jagiellonian University Collegium Medicum. She completed professional internships in Berlin, Utrecht, Naples, and she is a member of the editorial board of, among others, British Journal of Pharmacology, member of numerous scientific societies including International Cannabinoid Research Society (ICRS) i International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP). Head of the Neurochemistry Department at the Institute of Pharmacology of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
She specializes in strategies for chronic pain management, especially in increasing the effectiveness of neuropathic pain treatment and pain in osteoarthritis, by targeting therapy to the endogenous cannabinoid system. President of the Association of the Foundation for Polish Science Scholars for the term of office 2017-2019. Laureate of the Powroty / Homing program of the Foundation for Polish Science, the habilitation scholarship of L'Oréal Poland for Women and Science in 2012 and the National Science Centre Award in 2016.
