DELab UW – Digital Economy Lab – is an inter-faculty research institute at the University of Warsaw, which analyses changes in society, economy and politics driven by new technologies.

THE INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM of DELab UW consists of economists, sociologists, lawyers, computer scientists and data scientists. They are experts in the mechanisms of digital transformation. The team carries out both research and commercial projects, and it cooperates with businesses and public institutions.

DELab UW was founded at the University of Warsaw in 2013 with the support of a grant from Google. The company commissioned DELab to prepare a series of reports on digital competences in small and medium enterprises in more than a dozen European countries.

Areas of Cooperation

The team cooperates with representatives of business, Polish public authorities (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Digital Affairs, Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Technology) and international institutions, such as the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). This cooperation has resulted in the completion of projects concerning the EU’s Digital Single Market, geo-blocking, the development of Industry 4.0, e-identification and e-authentication, the future of work (including the banking sector), changes in the transport sector and the competences of the future.

DELab UW is deeply engaged in international cooperation. In the project entitled Engineroom, the team together with experts from the UK and Spain is studying current technological trends.

Together with partners from Toruń (Poland), Italy, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Estonia, DELab UW participates in the SharOn project devoted to sharing economy, which is funded from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme. Another project is ChainReact, carried out in collaboration with, among others, the University of Cambridge and the Greek Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH). Its objective is to increase the social awareness of connections between corporations and smaller businesses. Furthermore, in projects funded by the Polish National Science Centre, DELab staff research online privacy, new business models, the creative sector and copyright.
