Welcome to Poland!
We invite you to a country with an extraordinary tradition of freedom, tolerance and democracy - a country that created the first constitution in Europe and a union with Lithuania which is a model of integration with equal rights; a country with the DNA of peaceful cooperation, and at the same time a country which, thanks to its sovereignty regained in 1989, has become a place of dynamic economic and scientific development and a leader in the region of Central and Eastern Europe.
Courses are held in the onsite and online mode in July and August and last 2, 3 or 4 weeks. They are organized by the Polish universities with leading Centers of teaching Polish as a foreign language and having NAWA’s accreditation. The courses include:
- lessons of Polish language
- trips to top tourist attractions
- integrational events – also games, contests, projects
- workshops and lectures on Polish culture, history, habits, art, everyday life
- meeting with Poles – students, university representatives, politicians, businessmen, scholars.
The courses - including all activities related to them, as well as (in the case of on-site courses) accommodation and meals - are free of charge. Participants cover only the cost of travel to – and from - Poland, as well as the cost of medical insurance, including possible costs of transport to the country of residence. This insurance is obligatory, but it does not have to be purchased if the country of citizenship of the course participant has signed appropriate agreements with Poland.
The following groups are invited to participate in the course:
- students and academic teachers of foreign universities who are foreigners or have dual citizenship (Polish and citizenship of another country) for whom Polish is not the first language, who do not study, are not employed and do not live in Poland
- the participants must speak Polish or English on at least B1 level
- foreign language teachers who conduct courses in Polish as a foreign language in foreign academic centers
- Banach scholarship holders who started studies in Poland in academic year 2024/2025.
How do I apply?
- Monitor our website which is the most important and reliable source of the information about the courses. There - usually at the end of the calendar year - we publish the basic information about the courses in the coming summer: the times, the university organizing the course, the mode (onsite-online).
- Wait till the universities publish application forms on their websites – once they do it, you will also see the links on this website. While waiting you can check what the universities offered last year and the general information about them and think which course fits you most. You may also use this time to get the recommendation from your academic teacher.
- Fill in the form of the chosen university. You may apply also for the course of your second and third choice. Remember to give the e-mail address that you have easy access to and which will be valid till the end of calendar year – we send evaluation questionnaire during or after the course. Notice that you should check your e-mail box (including spam) regularly, because if the accepted candidate does not confirm participation in due time the person from the waiting list is accepted instead and the place is taken.
- Wait for the answer knowing that with so many candidates applying the processing of the applications and making a decision takes time. If you do not get any answer within a month – and especially if the university promised to inform you about the results earlier – check your spam folder and – if the answer is still not there - write to the university of your choice to ask for your status.
- If you get the place:
- confirm within the given time that you will participate in the course,
- be sure to check your e-mail regularly and follow all the directions from the university,
- be sure to notify immediately the university if anything changes in your situation and you will not be able to participate; late resignation and not attending the course without prior notice is extremely inconvenient for the universities (sometimes it is impossible to find someone else in the last minute option) and may result rejecting any other NAWA’s program application.
All the participants of NAWA courses are obliged to fill in the questionnaire right after the end of the course.
6. If you do not get a place:
- you may be put on the waiting list and be invited if someone earlier accepted resigns,
- you may consider applying for the online course which is - in most cases - easier to get place at; finishing the online course with engagement and good marks should help you to get place at the onsite course next year,
- you may consider commercial courses (not financed by NAWA) which are offered by the most of the NAWA accredited universities and are of at least the same quality as the ones financed by NAWA.
What are the expectations regarding my participation?
- achieving the minimum attendance at classes indicated by the university organizing the course,
- building a good atmosphere during all the activities with the engagement, respect to others and mutual help
- participation in evaluation activities during and after the course, including completing an online survey within 14 days of its availability, access to which will be provided before the end of the course,
- cooperation with the university staff and lecturers in order to achieve the best course results,
- (applies to on-site courses) appropriate maintenance of the place of accommodation, places of classes and entrusted didactic materials.
It would be our dream come true if the course would make a lasting bond between you and Poland and if you would promote the possibilities our country give to study, work, live and make business, promote the courses of Polish language and culture - also NAWA and its programs.
The recruitment guidelines for the on-site courses for students and academic teachers are as follows:
- achieving the highest possible percentage of people who have not yet used this form of support from the Polish State,
- achieving the highest possible percentage of students and academic teachers from the countries indicated on the attached list of countries with a high level of academic studies (see here),
- admission to the course of students and academic teachers for whom participation in the course proves to be the most useful from the point of view of the course objectives - i.e. people who link their academic or professional career with Poland or the Polish language,
- admission to the course of people whose achievements (e.g. academic) or position in the community increase the likelihood that positive opinions about Poland and favorable attitudes towards it will become widespread (e.g. giving preference to people who publish their texts),
- diversity of participants in terms of country of origin, universities, environments, faculties.
The course program is very rich and attractive. In the case of a full-time course for students and academic teachers, it includes at least:
15 hours a week of basic Polish language classes in groups at appropriate levels, with additional requirement regarding the number of participants in one class:
- • in the case of classes at levels A1 and A2, the number of people in classes cannot exceed 12,
- • the number of people in classes at any level cannot exceed 18.
10 hours a week of additional classes, including:
- lectures on Polish history and culture,
- integration events,
- workshops,
- participation in jointly implemented projects,
- cultural outings,
One trip per week outside the city where the course takes place,
Teaching materials – including at least one textbook or script.
Detailed information regarding accommodation and meals and other types of courses can be found in the attachment.
