The Minister of Science and Higher Education has appointed a Team for updating the state's scientific policy — a panel of experts that will develop proposals and recommendations on the directions of science development in Poland.

The Team was established by the Minister's ordinance of 12 September 2025 (Official Journal of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, item 59) and will operate in the years 2025–2027. Its membership includes several dozen people representing various scientific communities and institutions that support research development, including representatives of the National Agency for Academic Exchange — Dr Wojciech Karczewski, NAWA's Director General, and Dr Damian Syjczak, Deputy Director.

The objective of the Team's work is to update the state's scientific policy — a comprehensive review of priorities, funding rules and mechanisms for supporting science in Poland. The outcome will be a draft of the new scientific policy and a set of recommendations for the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

The Team's tasks include, among others:

    • · analysing proposals and opinions submitted by entities active in the field of science,
    • · preparing a draft update of the scientific policy,
    • · analysing comments from pre-consultations and public consultations,
    • · preparing the final version of the document, taking into account conclusions from the dialogue with the academic community.

The participation of Agency representatives in the Team's work is of great importance. Thanks to our experience in academic mobility, research internationalisation and talent support, we will be able to bring a practical perspective to the discussion on the challenges faced by Polish researchers in the global research environment.

Updating the scientific policy is a strategically important process — its results will influence how grants are shaped, which research directions receive support, and how researchers' careers develop in Poland and abroad.

The Team will work through regular meetings and working groups, supported by the Department of Strategic Analysis and Science Popularisation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Participation in its work is unpaid.

The Team's work will continue until the end of 2027. Its aim is to create a modern, open and cooperation-based scientific policy — one that responds to contemporary challenges and supports the further development of science in Poland.
