The Internationalisation Congress is a national forum dedicated to the role of Poland in the global circulation of knowledge. The event gathers representatives of universities, public institutions and the academic community, creating a space for dialogue on the directions of internationalisation of higher education and science.
The first edition of the Congress took place in May 2024 at the Medical University of Gdańsk and initiated a nationwide debate on the directions for the internationalisation of higher education in Poland. Discussions covered, among others, joint and double diplomas, academic mobility and the role of universities in the global circulation of knowledge.
The second edition, organised in September 2024 at the University of Warsaw, was dedicated to the internationalisation of science and supporting researchers’ careers in a global context. The conclusions from both events formed the basis for the development of the National Strategy for the Internationalisation of Science and Higher Education.
This year’s third edition of the Congress will take place on 4–5 December 2025 at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The overarching theme of the event will be science diplomacy – one of the key elements of contemporary international policy in science and higher education.
The programme will include plenary sessions, expert panels, workshops and accompanying events dedicated to Poland’s role in the global circulation of knowledge.
During the plenary session, the assumptions of the National Strategy for Internationalisation of Science and Higher Education will be presented, and experts will present various models of science diplomacy applied in other countries.
The programme will also include discussion panels, workshops and accompanying events devoted to the practical aspects of international cooperation in science.
Among the topics will be:
- the presence of science diplomacy in curricula,
- its application in research projects,
- the role in promoting Polish science abroad,
- security and ethics in science,
- the role of public institutions in developing international partnerships.
As part of the event there will also be a screening of the film „Polarniczki” (Polish Women Polar Explorers) followed by a discussion on the participation of Polish women and men researchers in international projects in the Arctic and Antarctica.
The event will conclude with a discussion “How to effectively develop science diplomacy and the internationalisation of Polish science?”, whose aim is to formulate recommendations for universities, research institutions and policymakers.
The findings of the Congress will serve to further refine the national policy on internationalisation – to effectively merge the potential of Polish research with global challenges and strengthen Poland’s position as a partner in knowledge-based diplomacy.
All editions of the Congress are implemented under the project Strategy for Internationalisation of Polish Higher Education and Science, funded by the European Funds for Social Development (FERS).
Participation in the Congress is free of charge; however, the number of places is limited. Confirmation of attendance will be sent via e-mail to the address provided during registration. The first messages will be sent in mid-November.
