The Polonista Programme offers scholarships for students who wish to take up Polish studies in Poland and for scholars who intend to carry out research projects in Poland. Applications may be submitted by students and scholars from all over the world.

‘The command of Polish increases my chances on the labour market,’ says Pengyu Xie, a Polish philology student from Shanghai. ‘Polish is not as popular in China as English or Russian. Cooperation between China and Poland is expanding gradually. The number of international companies keeps growing and relatively few people in China speak Polish,’ adds Pengyu Xie, a scholarship holder in the first edition of the Polonista Programme.

The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) has opened a call for applications in the second edition of the programme. Its objective is to promote Polish in the world by enabling foreigners interested in the Polish language and culture to study or carry out research projects in Poland. The Programme is dedicated to students of Polish philology, Polish studies or Polish programmes conducted among others as part of Slavic studies (covering Polish language, Polish culture and the knowledge of Poland) and to scholars from foreign universities and research institutions.

Offer for Students

Students – NAWA scholarship holders – can expand their interests in Polish studies by refining their language skills, participating in lectures and classes according to the selected curriculum, conducting research, carrying out scholarly projects, gathering material for their research or thesis and using the resources at university libraries and archives in the course of part-time (one-term or two-term) or full-time studies in Poland. The candidates select the university at which they wish to take up studies. The selected programme should be compatible with the programme at their original university. The applicant has to obtain the selected university’s consent to their stay and approval of their proposed curriculum. The language of instruction of the studies is Polish.

Further persons eligible to participate in the Programme are winners and finalists of the Polish Literature and Language Contest organised outside of Poland. They can apply for a NAWA scholarship for the period of first or second-degree Polish studies at a selected public university in Poland.

Polonista Programme Open for Scholars

This year’s edition admits scholars, as well. Under the Programme, scholars from foreign academic and research centres may carry out research projects lasting from three to twelve months at Polish universities and scientific institutions. The purpose of the projects should be, among others, doing scientific research (including in cooperation with Polish scientists), obtaining materials for research or scholarly publications, completing a postdoctoral fellowship, holding classes at the host centre or taking an intensive course of Polish. In the course of recruitment, the applicants have to present an invitation from the host centre confirming its readiness to host a NAWA scholarship holder.

We are waiting for your applications!

Applications may be submitted from 6 March 2020 until 30 April 2020.
